What timber do you use?
Pane in the Sash use Accoya timber. ‘A durable wood with outstanding performance, a low maintenance wood with 50 years life above ground guarantee’.
As a business we promise to provide our customers with the best quality products and service. Our timber of choice is based on its value for money, its hardworking components, its stability, its 50 years life above ground guarantee and its sustainability. Accoya has a low carbon footprint and is farmed responsibly. It’s also non toxic, so safe for people and pets.
Can I choose to use a cheaper timber?
There are plenty of cheaper timbers on the market; Pane in the Sash prefare to only use Accoya. This is mainly due to our mission to provide exceptional quality to our customers whilst being socially responsible.
In 2021 Pane in the Sash replaced 47% of hard wood windows that were less than 6 years old but at the end of their life.
Other timbers just don’t seem to withstand the test of environmental impacts as well as Accoya.
Accoya, is regular wood and just like any other wood it will weather naturally however Accoya is highly stable, tested and trusted not to visibly swell, shrink or distort, with minimal actual movement.
Whilst Redwood, Mahogany, Meranti and Sapele are all cheaper options they are grown much quicker than they used to be and don’t seem to be as tough. None of these timbers come with a 50 year life above ground guarantee.
If you would like a cost for a cheaper option of timber, please let us know.
How often do my windows need decorating?
We recommend re-decorating wooden windows every three years to keep water and environmental impacts at bay. By looking after your wooden windows they will last you much longer.
We recommend having sash windows decorated as soon as you fit them so environmental impacts don’t get chance to take effect. When decorating sash windows always use a wooden window decorator who understand the intrinsic and moving parts of the window. Otherwise they will accidentally paint them shut.
Do I need to have my windows decorated by Pane in the Sash?
No. However, we strongly suggest having your windows decorated by a sash or wooden window decorator who understands all the moving components of the sash window. We are regularly called out to ease open sash windows that are painted shut and once opened again they usually require re-decoration.
If new windows provided by us are not decorated within one month of fitting, unfortunately the windows cannot be included in our 5 year guarantee, as environmental impacts can have an effect on the window which is out of our control. If windows aren’t decorated by Pane in the Sash unfortunately they cannot be included in our 3 year guarantee as we have no control over the preparation, products used and if they are suitable for Accoya or the quantity of coats that are painted onto the timber.
What paint do you use?
We use Teknos paint for all of our window projects. Teknos paint and Accoya wood have the perfect partnership . Coating Accoya with Teknos paints not only gives a beautiful finish but also prolongs the service life of the timber and the coatings. Improved service life means reduced maintenance costs.

You aren’t the cheapest, will you price match a competitor quotation?
Pane in the Sash are a small family run business and we feel that our prices for the quality of products that we use and value of service that we provide are already very competitive. We do however value feedback and like to learn from the market.
We are happy to negotiate a like for like, in date quotation from a SME (Small to Medium Enterprise) sash window competitor within a 5 mile radius of our workshop who have quoted to use like for like products. Although we can’t always beat the price we can promise to negotiate a cost suitable for all parties concerned*
*In order for the negotiation to start we will need to see a copy of the full, in date estimate with costs and a full list of like for like products from the competitor that you would like us to compete with. Pane in the Sash cannot compete against the likes of Ventrolla, who are nationwide and offer a very different window and service option.
